The Baldwin County Major Crimes Unit is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Thursday, July 11 in Loxley.

Around 6:13 p.m. on July 11, Loxley police officers were dispatched to the residence located at 13681 Highway 90 in Loxley for a welfare check on a suicidal subject. Upon arrival, officers entered the open residence and found 74-year-old Glenn Dawson in an adjacent bedroom, accompanied by two other individuals. Dawson was armed with a handgun and refused to comply with officers' commands to lower his weapon. Dawson then raised his handgun and pointed it at one of the officers, who subsequently fired his weapon, striking Dawson in the chest.

Officers immediately administered life-saving measures, but Dawson succumbed to his injuries shortly afterward.

The Loxley Police Department has requested an independent review of the incident by the Baldwin County Major Crimes Unit, which is standard protocol for officer-involved shootings in the county.

The investigation is ongoing. No further information is available at this time.
