BAY MINETTE, Ala. — Construction began in late May for a boat launch in Lillian which will feature 70 parking spaces, a 200-foot pier, two ramps and overflow parking areas.

Baldwin County engineer Cal Markert told commissioners today that contractors are clearing land and completing other pre-construction requirements.

Landscaping, lighting, irrigation and dredging to accommodate most boats also are planned at the south Baldwin County site.

September is the completion date.

County officials said the community has asked for a launch for several years, and the site will prevent search and rescue teams from going to Florida to launch.

Construction plans for a Wolf Bay boat launch is also in the works.
