MAGNOLIA SPRINGS, Ala. — With the official start of spring just days away, the Baldwin County Seed Library is gearing up to help Baldwin County patrons gear up for spring planting.

The Seed Library is housed in the Magnolia Springs Library. According to librarian Alida Given, the facility is currently being restocked with a variety of flower seeds.

“All flowers,” she said, naming off such posies as asters and Four O’Clocks as examples.

Given developed the Seed Library last year for all patrons having a Baldwin County Library card. The stipulation is that those checking seeds out are required to harvest and bring back seeds the following season.

“Seven hundred seed packets were checked out last year,” she said.

Those patrons came from all corners of Baldwin to partake in the program.

“We did have people from Spanish Fort, Daphne and Orange Beach,” Given said.

Since then, the library has been contacted by other facilities about the program.

“We’ve had a lot of enquiries,” Given said. “The librarian from Oxford, Miss., called to ask about how to set up a seed library.”

The Baldwin County Seed Library is open all year and contains seeds for both flowers and vegetables. For more information, call 251-965-2305.
