DAPHNE, Alabama — The Lady Dolphins flipped the tide in the third quarter with a 23-5 scoring run at Bayside Academy Tuesday night, then held off the otherwise defensive-minded Lady Admirals the rest of the way for a 51-28 Gulf Shores road win. Bayside won the first meeting of the season between the two by a bucket 36-34 at The Tank in November.
The Lady Admirals took the early first-period lead 8-6, but were outscored 12-7 in the second quarter for an 18-15 Gulf Shores lead at the half. GSHS led by five points, 25-20, about three minutes into the third before they exploded for a 14-0 run to finish the quarter. The Lady Dolphins’ full-court pressure in the second half paid off with three inbound steals by Morgan Campbell all converted for layups.
Campbell led the Lady ‘Phins with a game-high 15 points, Caroline Tilley added 10 while Caitlin Martin and Chloe Rogers chipped in seven each as Gulf Shores improved to 3-4 with the win. Virginia Pittman led Bayside Academy with a double-double 11 points and 15 rebounds, Maggie Cooper scored 10 for the Lady ‘Ads and Jhalen Caffey finished with five. The B.A. girls dropped to 2-4 with the loss.
Bayside shot 58 percent at the free throw line with 7-of-12 attempts made while Gulf Shores went 8-for-14 (57 percent).
The Lady Dolphins will host Williamson High School at 6 p.m. Friday night at The Tank. The Lady Admirals will host Satsuma High School’s Lady Gators Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Bayside Academy’s Louise Moorer Gym.
