FAIRHOPE, Ala.— High school volleyball squads got their regular season schedules started over the weekend. At Fairhope High, The Pirates hosted Cottage Hill Christian to start their 2016 Alabama High School Athletic Association run. The match went five sets with the No. 10 ranked, Class 3A Warriors prevailing: 20-25, 25-18, 25-18, 22-25, 15-12.
At Daphne, the Class 6A fifth-ranked Trojans opened up the Alabama High School Athletic Association volleyball season with a tri-match hosting Class 7A seventh-ranked Murphy and Class 5A third-ranked St. Paul’s. Daphne defeated Murphy’s Panthers 25-22,25-22, then fell to the Saints 25-17, 25-16. Murphy and St. Paul’s split in their first two sets with the Panther’s winning the match in three games 25-16, 16-25, 15-9.
Panhandle Christian Conference Volleyball
After a strong showing at their 2016 preseason tournament at West Florida Baptist in Pensacola, Fla., the Bayshore Christian Eagles began their regular season with a 3-0 Panhandle Christian Conference win against Collegiate Christian.
“Aggressive serving, team defense and communication were strong factors to our success in last night’s event,” said Eagles coach Dave Omtvedt.
Ashley Conrad led BSC with 6 Kills, Nina Messinger posted 8 Aces and Lilly Hodges added 7, Hodges led in Assists with 12 while Messinger came up with16 Digs to lead the Eagles in the win.
