Three local representatives, Fairhope’s Lena Amare, Bayside Academy’s Elizabeth Chen and Gulf Shores’ Murray Reed, all captured individual state titles and were among the 15 podium finishes earned by Baldwin County swimmers and divers at the championship meet in Auburn last weekend.

A pair of Gulf Shores relay teams took it a step further and broke state meet records thanks to title-winning times of 1:37.15 in the 200-yard medley relay and 1:28.09 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Reed, Canyon Moyers, Liam Bickham and Patrick Conley made up both relay teams and all went on to also grab individual silver medals to help the Dolphins finish second in the team competition for squads in Classes 1A to 5A.

Amare won the 200-yard freestyle (1:51.81) and the 100-yard freestyle (50.62) for Fairhope and Chen took the crown in the 200-yard individual medley (2:08.48) and added a silver medal in the 100-yard backstroke (56.51) representing Bayside Academy. Reed claimed the 100-yard freestyle (46.93) and finished second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:44.46) for Gulf Shores.

Also from Fairhope, Cooper Brechman (360.90 points in the 1-meter dive) and Noah Greer (4:38.37 in the 500-yard freestyle) won silver medals with runner-up finishes, as did the Pirates’ 200-yard freestyle relay (1:30.07) thanks to performances from Greer, Dean Gearhart, Canon Kilpatrick and Stephen Laraway.

Fairhope’s Ella McDowell, Anastasia Newton, Ravenna Brandon and Amare also secured a bronze medal with a time of 1:39.84 in the 200-yard freestyle relay race.

Also from Bayside Academy, Marlee Moore earned a silver medal in the 50-yard freestyle (24.44) and the Admirals’ 200-yard freestyle relay (1:46.19) garnered a bronze medal following contributions from Ayelen Bodnar, Mia Bindon, Chen and Moore.

Nine more local athletes also registered top-five finishes, including Orange Beach’s Lucean Pingrey in the 200-yard freestyle (1:51.82 for fourth) as well as Daphne’s Mallory Seahorn (1:00.44 for fifth) and Dane Goodman (52.08 for fifth) in their respective 100-yard backstroke races.
