Dolphin swimmer grabs top-10 finishes against athletes from 15 southeastern states

Murray Reed represented the Gulf Shores swim team on USA Swimming's Southeastern Zone team and earned four top-10 finishes against the top swimmers across 15 states at the Southern Zone Championship in Mississippi in late July.

He set personal-best times in the 50- (25.21) and 400-meter freestyle (4:27.34) races where he finished fifth and 18th overall. He added a top-eight finish in the 100-meter freestyle (55.31) as well as second- and third-place finishes on relay teams. Reed also registered times of 1:07.65 in the 100-meter backstroke and 2:02.87 in the 200-meter freestyle to round out his journey to Tupelo, Mississippi.

It was the first for a representative of the Dolphin swim team where Reed garnered his spot reserved for athletes from Alabama, Tennessee and the panhandle of Florida after he finished as one of the top eight swimmers in his age group (Men's 13-14) at the Southeastern Long Course Championship meet earlier in July.

Reed recorded second-place finishes in the 50- (25.71 seconds) and 200-meter freestyle (2:02.53), as well as a third-place finish in the 100-meter freestyle (55.26). The latter two times also set personal records for the 14 year old.
