Gulf Shores International Airport (GUF/JKA) will implement a temporary closure of the airport as part of its safety preparations for the approaching Hurricane Isaias.
Here's the statement from the airport on the closure:
"To ensure the safety of airport staff, tenants, travelers, and the broader aviation community, the airport will close to all operations except emergency services aircraft beginning 12:00 p.m. CST on Friday, October 9, with tentative plans to reopen at 10:00 a.m. CST on Saturday, October 10, pending a post‑storm safety assessment.
"Commercial airline passengers are advised that Allegiant Air, the airport’s sole commercial carrier, will directly notify affected travelers regarding flight cancellations and schedule adjustments. Passengers with upcoming travel are encouraged to contact Allegiant’s customer service team at Allegiant.com or call (702) 505‑8888 for questions about their reservations or rebooking options.
“'Our crews are working hard to prepare for this storm, including securing equipment and inspecting our facilities, and we remain ready to reopen as soon as conditions are safe for our staff to assess the airport’s condition after the storm,' Airport Director Jesse Fosnaugh said. 'The safety of our passengers, employees, and all airport users is our highest priority.'
"The airport is coordinating closely with the City of Gulf Shores Emergency Management and Baldwin County Emergency Management to ensure proper readiness and response throughout the weather event. Additional updates will be provided through official airport communication channels including the airport website and social media."
