The Alabama Cooperative Extension System is working with farm organizations and state and federal agencies to assess agricultural damage caused by Hurricane Isaias and is asking farmers to help document the storm’s impact.
The effort will record damage to crops, livestock, buildings and equipment to create a public report detailing the effects of the hurricane on Alabama agriculture.
Farmers are encouraged to contact their county Extension office to share photographs and videos of storm damage that include date and time stamps. Documentation can also be submitted online at www.aces.edu/go/Isaias.
The deadline to submit photographs and videos is Friday, Oct. 16, at 5 p.m.
The resulting report will not include farmers’ personal or identifying information.
In addition to participating in the Extension System’s damage survey, farmers should contact their local U.S. Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency office to report losses related to Hurricane Isaias.
Each county FSA office will complete a Loss Assessment Report as part of the official process for designating a county as an agricultural disaster area.
Farmers can find contact information for their local FSA office at www.fsa.usda.gov/fsa-office-locator.
