“God has a plan for your life which no other [person] can fulfill. No two leaves, no two jewels, no two stars, no two lives, are alike. Every life is a fresh thought from God to the world.” (James H. McConkey)

“God has a plan for your life which no other [person] can fulfill. No two leaves, no two jewels, no two stars, no two lives, are alike. Every life is a fresh thought from God to the world.” (James H. McConkey)
Long ago, before seas were given their depth and mountains their height, God knew you and God knew me. “He hath chosen us in Him before the foundation of the world.” (Ephesians 1:4, KJV). Before He spoke our planet into existence, He created a plan for our redemption. Revelation describes our Savior as the “Lamb slain before the foundation of the world.” (13:8). Before the first cloud nestled into the vast expanse of blue sky, God had us in mind and had chosen us to be the focus of His love. We are created in meaningful premeditation, by God and for God.
Life-brimming earth was fashioned by intentional execution and well ordered design. Even in our most microscopic sciences, we discover incredible intricacies. Creation shouts testimony of God’s immaculate attentiveness. The prophet Isaiah cried, “Lift your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one, and calls them each by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.” (40:26, KJV) The same God who carefully attends the starry host and who planned the elaborate minutiae of the universe, has a plan for the lives of His most treasured creation: the sons and daughters of Adam.
Ages and ages of world population does not become a blurred sea of obscure faces to Creator God. Each soul is distinctive, loved and given life with purpose. It is a grave deception to perceive God as a distant and uninvolved Maker. Scripture reveals, “Many, O LORD my God, are the wonders you have done. The things you planned for us no one can recount to you; were I to speak and tell of them, they would be too many to declare.” (Psalm 40:5, NIV) God is not aloof. God is active with a passionate will for mankind.
Not only does He have a will for mankind, He has a specific will for you. God shapes and orders your life with a purpose, a personality, a skill set and a sphere of influence unique to you. You are equipped to impact this world in way that no other person can. The question, then, is not whether God has a plan for your life or not. The question is: Will you submit yourself to God’s plan?
Earthly creation obeys its Maker without hesitation. He commands the winds to stop and the skies to rain, they obey. But, we are creations of freewill. We have the distinctive privilege of loving and obeying God from the heart of our own desire. What will be our choice?
As in all of God’s work, there is perfection in His command and in His plan for our lives. If we will submit ourselves to God’s direction, He will shape our character and prepare us for eternity. As Creator, He alone understands the needs of man with absolute clarity. It is only in the center of His will that we can experience deepest contentment and greatest fulfillment.
As we seek His will for our lives, let’s remember the wisdom of Lettie B. Cowman: “God is never an instant too late. He may keep us from the knowledge of what He is going to do; but He always has His perfect plans successfully made. All we need to do is to put ourselves wholly in His hands, ask His guidance, follow His leadings, and count confidently upon His blessings.”
“’For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’” (Jeremiah 29:11)
