Orange Beach — The AC Celebrity Weekend sponsored by Sidelines in Orange Beach was a big hit for football fans as proceeds went towards Jeremiah Castille Ministries.

On Friday, several of the former players and coaches were in attendance at Sidelines for an autograph session that produced a large turnout.

"It actually gives us exposure and lets people know what we're doing in the State of Alabama and it's a way for us to communicate with fans," Castille said. "It's behind the scenes work. Those young men that are inside those helmets are real people under there, and we are there to help real people."

Along with Castille, Andrew Zow, A.C. Carter, Barry Krauss, Hall of Famer Ozzie Newsome, Hugh Green, Roger Shultz, Jay Barker, Tommy Wilcox, Ray Perkins, Rich Wingo and Joe Cribbs were in attendance.

Barker, a former quarterback that led the Tide to a dramatic 21-14 victory of Auburn his senior season, has been a strong support of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and is an active supporter of Castille Ministries.

"I've known Jeremiah for many years now, and just knowing what type of person he is along with knowing his passion for young people, especially those in inner cities, is why I support this," he said.

"We are able to coach young people through life lessons and giving them what we believe to be the moral absolutes that God gives us through his word. He is our moral compass for this whole thing, and we are excited about being here and raising some funds."

Castille is the team chaplain at the University of Alabama and has made an impact on hundreds of players over the years. He spoke fondly of his relationship with Pittsburgh Steeler cornerback Anthony Madison, a second-year player in the NFL.

Madison wasn't quick to come around Castille recalled, but after instilling trust in the former Tider, Castille was able to make a difference.

"He wrote me a letter and he told me he really appreciated the words of wisdom and the example that has helped him at the level he is now. We were able to do that because we were an influence on his life right here on campus."
