The Foley City Council held a special council meeting on Thursday to appoint a new city administrator to replace retiring Perry Wilbourne.
The council voted unanimously to approve Michael Thompson to the position. Thompson was formerly employed as an administrator for Baldwin County. Thompson chose to leave his position with Baldwin County in November before new county commissioners took office.
The council selected Thompson from a pool of candidates members of the council interviewed face-to-face two weeks ago. After interviews the council voted, but the votes were tied between Thompson and a candidate with out-of-state experience.
Thompson was sworn in on Thursday as well. He will begin working with the City of Foley alongside the current administrator to acclimate to his new position before Wilbourne officially retires April 17.
