Foley schools, football game to see extra police after social media threat; no weapon found in lockdown

There will be an increased presence at all Foley schools Friday, Sept. 13, following social media conversations spreading threats online and causing Foley High School to go into lockdown Thursday.

"There are pictures circulating on social media and being distributed that are old photos not from today’s incident at Foley High School. In fact, some that we’ve seen are not even taken on the campus of Foley High School,” Foley Police Chief Thurston Bullock posted on the police department’s official Facebook page Thursday.

Reports indicate a school resource officer requested additional support after a teacher reported a threat. The campus was cleared Thursday morning, with a perimeter remaining.

“I want to reiterate that there were no guns at Foley High School today (Sept. 12), and there was no weapon seen or recovered during our investigation,” Bullock wrote.

He wrote investigators were tracking down leads on social media conversations that are now also spreading to other schools around Baldwin County and said they are staying in touch with other agencies and the school board.

“Schools will have a heavy presence of officers as a precaution, so do not be alarmed by our increased presence.  We will have additional officers at the football game tomorrow night as well for the same reason,” he wrote. “I want our community to feel safe and know that we are aware and vigilant.
