MOBILE, Ala. — Flight Works Alabama is relaunching and expanding FlightPath9 (FP9). High school students or individuals early in their career who possess an interest in the aviation industry and a position at Airbus’ U.S. Manufacturing Facility are encouraged to apply for the pre-employment training program. FP9 is made possible by a partnership between Fight Works Alabama, the State of Alabama, Bishop State Community College, Southwest Alabama Partnership for Training and Employment and local businesses.
“The FlightPath9 program is critical to ensuring our future workforce has the proper training and development necessary to launch a successful career in aviation,” said Daryl Taylor, vice president and general manager of Airbus’ U.S. Manufacturing Facility. “We are pleased to continue this partnership and look forward to adding more successful FlightPath9 graduates to our Airbus team.”
Those interested in applying must register no later than 2 p.m. on the day of the event to participate in mandatory informational calls. Individuals who are in their early career must register by 2 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 21 for an informational call to be held later that day. High school students have until 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23 to register for an information call to be held later that day. Visit https://www.flightworksalabama.com/education/flightpath9/ to register.
Two separate FlightPath9 pre-employment training programs will be held in 2022:
Created in 2019, FlightPath9 High School Program is designed for high school seniors. The program will relaunch in September 2022. Current high school juniors can apply for the program by March 18. The class is limited to 25 participants.
The newly developed FlightPath9 Career Program is designed for individuals who may be beginning their careers and have a strong interest in the aviation industry. Anyone interested can apply for the 10-week FlightPath9 summer program by March 16.
“Bishop State is excited to support the continued growth of the aviation industry along the Gulf Coast by providing a trained and skilled workforce. We look forward to partnering with Flight Works Alabama and Airbus to offer an Aviation Manufacturing Technology program,” said Dr. Lawrence Brandyburg, interim president, Bishop State Community College. “Students earn not only college credit but will also receive industry-approved training, several industry-recognized credentials from the National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3), and are guaranteed a job with Airbus. This will be life-changing for our students, and we look forward to seeing the positive results of this partnership!”
Program participants must have basic reading, writing and math skills, and the ability to work in a team environment. Applicants must be 18-years or older by their hire date. Graduates who successfully complete these programs will become full-time apprentices at the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility.
“FlightPath9 provides an avenue for individuals to master an array of skills while delivering an educational program to our community with clear and measurable results,” said Michelle Hurdle, president of Flight Works Alabama. “We were proud to send our first group of FlightPath9 graduates into the workforce in 2021 and look forward to growing this program in the upcoming years.”
