An early morning fire damaged three Daphne businesses in a strip mall.

At 3:32 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, the Spanish Fort Fire Department received a call regarding a fire on County Road 13, just north of Daphne High School. The small strip mall is home to Janino’s Pizza, a nail salon and Baldwin County Federal Credit Union.

While the building is in the Spanish Fort Fire Department’s jurisdiction, Daphne Fire also responded. Multiple fire engines from both Spanish Fort and Daphne were on the scene as well as Daphne’s ladder truck and Medstar EMS.

Spanish Fort Fire Chief Roger Few told Gulf Coast Media the fire was out by 3:51 a.m. The fire is still under investigation, but Few did say lightning has been ruled out as a cause.

The Baldwin County Federal Credit Union, which suffered the most damage, added a notice to its website that reads:

“Early Tuesday morning (5/14) a fire destroyed our Daphne Branch Office; it’s inoperable. Until the office is rebuilt, we are asking our valued members to use either the Loxley Brand Office or the Main Office in Bay Minette. We apologize for this inconvenience. If we can do anything for you by phone, please call the Main Office in Bay Minette at (251) 937-0334.”

Gulf Coast Media has attempted to contact the owners of Janino’s Pizza and Missi Nails. Janino’s Pizza has told other media outlets they plan to reopen, and a comment on the Janino’s Pizza Facebook page said they believe it will take four weeks.

This is a developing story, and we will continue to follow it and update with any new information.
