SPANISH FORT, Ala.—Monday was an emotional City Council meeting for attendees and the council as Councilwoman Wanda Finch tearfully contemplated her next-to-last council meeting after 15 years.
“It has meant so much, I have learned so much.” Finch said. “I had the opportunity to do so many things and meet so many fine people.
“I cannot believe that we’ve come this far; I mean, look, we’re a booming metropolis.”
Finch has been part of the council since the city was incorporated in 1993.
“It was a six-year endeavor to make Spanish Fort a city,” Finch said.
Finch was defeated by Dennis Diskmuke, who won, 174-119, in the Aug. 26 election.
Finch’s last day in the District 1 seat will be at the Oct. 20 City Council meeting.
“I wish you all the best and I beg you to take care of my city, cause I’m the momma.
“I thank all of you for your support,” she said. “And I’ll miss you, but I’m gonna be home watching ‘Deal or No Deal’ on Monday nights.”
