Fairhope’s Conway announces commitment to Mobile Ram baseball program

Fairhope Pirate senior first baseman and outfielder Jacob Conway announced his college destination Friday, Sept. 23, and will join the University of Mobile Rams after his final season in Fairhope.

As a junior, Conway was named to the All-County team awarded by Baldwin County Public Schools as well as a first-team Baldwin County all-star as awarded by the Mobile Baseball Connection. Unofficial stats saw him record a .305 average and 26 hits – 11 doubles and two home runs – with 20 RBIs, 26 runs and 30 walks.

Earlier this year, the 6’ 1”, 215-pounder participated in Prep Baseball Report’s Preseason All-State event where he was among players to be evaluated in various facets of the game. Conway’s 95-mph max exit velocity ranked seventh best at the event and he ran the 60-yard dash in 7.55 seconds.

The Mobile Rams compete in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics’ (NAIA) Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) where they finished 25-20 overall and 11-13 in the conference for the No. 6 seed in the postseason tournament. Mobile lost in the first round to the eventual champion William Carey Crusaders then fell to the Loyola Wolfpack in the consolation bracket.

Mobile’s 2022 roster also featured plenty of players who played their high school ball in Baldwin County. Brett Buck from Bay Minette was joined by Wil King from Bayside Academy, Jared Matthes and Chad Callaway from Central Christian, Reece Miles and Sam Bowman from Daphne, Trey Simpkins from Elberta, Trevor Wells from Fairhope, Grant Driver from Robertsdale and Matthew Holston from Spanish Fort.

The Fairhope Pirates finished 23-17 overall this past spring and claimed the Class 7A Area 2 title with an 8-1 mark in the group. Out of last year’s area, only Murphy fell to Class 6A so Fairhope will once again battle Daphne and Foley for playoff positioning in 2023.
