For more than 30 years, Christmas 'Round the Corner in downtown Fairhope has celebrated the season all year long.
The store, located at 398 Fairhope Ave. and adjacent to Fairhope Pharmacy, is outfitted with Christmas décor and objects. It has a large selection of unique ornaments, nutcrackers, wreaths, trees, snow globes and various styles of Santas to choose from. If you need something for the holidays, there is a pretty good chance they have it.
This year, a survey was conducted by MarkBeat, a financial media company, that asked 3,022 shoppers across the country what the most "Christmassy" stores that gave them the strongest holiday spirit were in every state. Christmas 'Round the Corner in Fairhope topped the list of stores in Alabama.
"That's exciting to hear because we try really hard to have something for everybody in the store," said Helen Doyle, store manager who has worked there for about eight years.
The store was started by Ben and Betty Barnhill, owners of Fairhope Pharmacy who have owned the property since 1959. It was inspired by Betty's trip to the Christmas villages in Germany. She then decided to start her own holiday-themed store in 1993.
Even when it isn't the holiday season, Doyle said they are busy year-round due to Fairhope being a destination town in Baldwin County as well as for events such as Mardi Gras and the annual Fairhope Arts and Crafts Festival. At the store, it's Christmas every day.
"Christmas is my favorite time of the year, so this is the best place to be," Doyle said. "You get to go home covered in glitter every day."
Christmas 'Round the Corner is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m.
