A popular burger brand is coming to Tanger Outlets in Foley as part of a larger makeover of the outlet mall.
Tanger announced on Tuesday, Aug. 11, that Shake Shack will be a part of the new dining district as the first addition in what the outlet describes as a roster of "curated, elevated dining offerings." Approximately 20,000 square feet of food and beverage space is in the works. Construction began earlier this year on renovations of the mall center, which is more than 500,000 square feet in total and an effort to enhance and modernize the shopping experience while preserving its coastal character, according to a press release from Tanger.
Tanger said the new dining space will feature up to eight concepts, including Shake Shack. More restaurant announcements are expected as construction continues.
“Across our portfolio, we have been very intentional about introducing fresh, elevated food, beverage and entertainment concepts that create an immersive, repeat-visit environment for our guests,” Justin Stein, executive vice president and chief revenue officer at Tanger, said in a statement. “That strategy is evident in the approach we’ve taken to renovate and remerchandise Tanger Foley, where we’re curating an optimal mix of in-demand retail and dining brands that will reinvent the on-site experience for the center’s tourist and local audiences.”
Spanning 200 restaurants nationwide, Shake Shack is known for their 100% Angus beef burger, crinkle cut fries and frozen custard. Prior to Tuesday's announcement, Shake Shack had only one other location in the state of Alabama at the Summit in Birmingham.
"We’re thrilled to welcome Shake Shack to Tanger Foley, initiating a new, experience-focused approach to dining at this center," Hugo Gilbert, senior director of leasing for restaurants and entertainment at Tanger, said in a statement. "We look forward to introducing additional standout national, regional and local dining options here that both complement our retail environment and create a vibrant social destination that resonates with our community."
According to a press release, the renovated design will feature expansive patios, walkable dining zones and integrated gathering spaces intended to encourage longer visits and create a more social, day-to-night destination for guests. Tanger says they are also actively seeking "distinctive, experience-driven concepts" for the new dining center to further enhance the guest experience.
Tanger Outlets generated buzz earlier this year after Toy 'R Us opened in June, marking the first in Baldwin County and the first in the state since the toy company closed its remaining stores in 2018 after filing for bankruptcy.
