FOLEY, Ala. — Foley offensive tackle D.J. Fluker has received many accolades in his high school football career, but the one he got Friday morning might be the biggest.

The 6-foot-7, 327-pound senior was selected to play in the U.S. Army All-American football game in San Antonio, Texas on January 3. The game, which features the best high school football players from all over the country, will be televised worldwide by NBC. Fluker, a University of Alabama commitment, said he couldn’t be more excited to play in the game.

“It makes me very excited when I think about it,” Fluker said. “To be out there playing with the best players in the nation, is an honor.”

Fluker transferred to Foley from Mississippi last Christmas. Since that time he has become one of the most popular students at Foley.

“He has done so much for us on and off the field,” Foley football coach Todd Watson said. “He has such a great personality. Everybody at the school loves him.”

Fluker had never played offensive line before transferring to Foley. He was highly recruited as a defensive lineman, but has gotten even more attention as an offensive lineman since the Foley coaching staff decided to move him to tackle.

“I think he could have been a very dominant defensive lineman for us, but he has NFL potential at tackle,” Watson said. “He has so many physical tools and such great size, and left tackle is such a coveted position. He has tremendous potential.”

Fluker said the move couldn’t have worked out better for him.

“I really want to thank all my coaches for helping me learn to block,” Fluker said. “They have really pushed me to get better.”
