DAPHNE, Alabama – Mayor Bailey Yelding died Tuesday at about 4 a.m., according to news reports quoting City Attorney Jay Ross. He had been suffering from cancer.
Elected mayor last year following a decade’s service on the City Council, the city’s first black mayor had recently requested a medical leave of absence from city duties.
At tonight’s regular meeting, the council will discuss who will take over mayoral duties, Ross said, as reported by Marc Anderson of the Press-Register.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
