The Lyons Share Gallery and Page & Palette Bookstore will feature the works of critically acclaimed Press-Register editorial cartoonist J.D. Crowe during First Friday ArtWalk, Oct. 5, 6-8 p.m.

Crowe’s new book, Smell the Love, will be available at both shops, and framed copies of his cartoons will be up for bid in a silent auction at The Lyons Share. Proceeds from this joint venture will benefit A Fair Hope of Success, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to preserve and enhance the great things about Fairhope.

Crowe’s latest editorial cartoon collection takes readers on a satirical journey through the events of the last four years. From the Fairhope Wal-Mart Supercenter controversy through the Hurricane Katrina aftermath to the Bishop State Community College scandal, Crowe’s striking, often haunting images resonate with readers nationally while keeping the locals along the Gulf Coast stirred up with heavy doses of tough love.

Crowe draws five editorial cartoons a week for the Press-Register. A native Kentuckian, he studied design, painting, and journalism at Eastern Kentucky University, earning a B.F.A. degree in 1981.

Crowe says he has won a few awards over the years but his “favorite treasures are the ones that flow freely from the fountain of daily Sound-Off calls from the Press-Register’s impassioned readers.”

He currently lives in Fairhope with his wife, Lori, and daughter, Bronwen.
