DAPHNE — For the first time the 18-year history of the "Many More Miles" campaign, Baldwin Bone & Joint PC is partnering with Baldwin County Public Schools, City Hope Church and organizers of the 2022 Spring Fever Chase to collect and distribute gently used athletic shoes for Baldwin County families in need and area homeless.

Since its inception, response to the campaign has grown from 200 pairs donated in 2004 to 2,728 pairs contributed most recently. Shoe donations for 2022 will be accepted starting in early February with final shoe drop-offs received at the 2022 Spring Fever Chase on Saturday, March 19 in Fairhope.

Baldwin County students will once again be rewarded for collecting the highest number of shoes with money for their schools' new P.E. equipment.

Baldwin Bone & Joint will award cash prizes to the top three Baldwin County Public Schools who donate the most shoes. Over the years, shoes donated by local schools have provided the largest collective donation to the campaign, according to organizers.

"It's amazing what something as simple as a pair of shoes can do for someone," said Baldwin County Public Schools Superintendent Eddie Tyler. "Things that many of us take for granted can mean the world to someone else. For a child, it may mean they can walk the halls of their school with pride. For adults, it may be a means to help them provide for their family. Shoes are instrumental for everyday life, and we could not think of a better cause to be involved in. Congrats to the 'Many More Miles' campaign for the years of success it's had. We look forward to seeing what the campaign will contribute again this year.'"

Baldwin Bone & Joint will partner with City Hope Church to distribute shoes to Baldwin County families in need and area homeless populations.

A distribution event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 26, at City Hope Church-Malbis, 22964 Saint Basil St., Daphne. The City Hope Church Homeless Outreach team will also provide shoes for area homeless populations.

Those interested in participating are encouraged to clean up their gently used athletic shoes, tie them together in pairs and drop them off at any of the following locations:

  • Baldwin Bone & Joint, 1505 Daphne Ave., Daphne;
  • - PE coaches with participating schools in Baldwin County;
  • - Office of Dr. Glenn Glass, 1303 Main St., Daphne;
  • - The University of South Alabama Student Recreation Center 51 Jaguar Blvd., Mobile; and
  • - McCoy's Outdoors, Springhill Plaza, 3498 Springhill Ave., Mobile.
