SPANISH FORT, Ala.—The capital murder trial of Leslie Eric Buzbee is slated to begin Monday in Circuit Judge James Reid’s courtroom.

Buzbee, who faces the death penalty if convicted, has been charged with murder-burglary and murder-robbery in an Aug. 11, 2007, attack on Arthur “Bobby” Wilson, who owned Wilson’s Service Center in Spanish Fort.

Wilson, 71, was found bleeding in his station at the crest of Spanish Fort Boulevard. It is believed he was attacked just after opening the station around 4:30 a.m.

Wilson, who suffered a fractured skull in the attack, remained in a coma for more than four months before dying Dec. 28, 2007.

Buzbee, 24, was named a “person of interest” in the attack after he told an acquaintance that Wilson refused to cash his two-party check. He, then, allegedly told his drug dealer about the check-cashing incident. Wilson was found the next morning around 5 a.m. by a Spanish Fort police officer.

According to court records, Buzbee has also been charged with felony possession of a controlled substanceand felony possession of drug paraphernalia in connection with a crack pipe discovered in his residence during a legal search of the premises.
