FAIRHOPE — Charlie Brown is pretty anxious for a 5-year-old.
But that is precisely what makes him so relatable and so much fun to play, says Jax Stevens, Baldwin County Virtual Secondary student. Stevens is playing the angsty kindergartener in the school's upcoming production of "You're a Good Man Charlie Brown."
"He's weirdly anxious for his age, but he doesn't let it consume him," Stevens said. "He's just going through life being himself, and it's actually really relatable."
The cast and crew of 15 virtual school students is bringing the production to the Fairhope Civic Center for just one night, Friday, March 24.
Director and theater instructor D.D. Payne said she picked the script for its feel-good moments.
"It's a great, warm and fuzzy kind of show," Payne said. "I feel like our world needs that."
Audiences will recognize cast members who are returning from past virtual school productions as well as new faces. Payne said she enjoys watching the students make memories and grow.
"Even if they are just on stage and not speaking, they are able to get up there and see that they can do it and that they are successful and that the audience loves it," she said. "This gives them confidence not just in being in theater but in making life choices."
The cast and crew include Jax Stevens, Rachael Goodrich, Hayden Jensen, Avery Kyzar, Jasmine Guy, Ivey Simpson, Ziggy Murphy, Brooklyn Kyzar, Lydiannie Noriega, Whitley Hale, Maria Maddox, Will Brunson, Ashtyn Arnette, Abbey McKee, and Emily Warner.
Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for students and can be purchased with cash at the door.
