Baldwin County High fishermen Travis, Norris win Angler of the Year

Bay Minette duo racked up 1,187 points on the Wiregrass Student Angler Tour this season

During the Wiregrass Student Angler Trail season that started in August, nobody on the tour racked up more points than James Travis and Jameson Norris from Baldwin County High School and their 1,187 total points.

The pair received their Angler of the Year awards after the season finale tournament on Lake Eufaula last Saturday, Nov. 19, where they finished with a nine-point lead over Lawson Gamble and Gray Hardy from Headland.

Altogether, the Tiger fishing squad also finished second in the team competition in a tightly contested race that was separated by only two points heading into the final tournament. Baldwin County had eight of its nine duos in the top 25 of the final Angler of the Year standings.

It was just last spring when four duos qualified for the team’s fourth consecutive Bassmaster High School National Championship after Conner Lenham and Jed Defee had been in first place of the Angler of the Year standings throughout the season.

At the championship tournament, Lenham-Defee was bumped into second place and the team set a goal to finish the next season in first place of the final standings. Travis and Norris did just that on Lake Eufaula last Saturday where they finished their Angler of the Year campaign strong with a sixth-place finish and were joined by three other duos in registering top-25 finishes.

Also last Saturday, Baldwin County had three duos compete in the junior division where one team grabbed second place and another earned third place. Kipton Hall and Wyatt Parker hauled in five fish for 7.29 total pounds and 299 points, and Hunter Robertson and Wyatt Lee scored two fish for 4.44 total pounds and 298 points.
