DAPHNE — Frank Anthony, truck driver-turned-mystery novel author, will discuss his book, “The Inheritance of Shadows,” Wednesday, 10 a.m., at the Daphne Public Library.
Anthony, a Robertsdale resident, said he’s had an almost lifelong interest in mysteries.
“I started reading at a very young age and mysteries were like a puzzle to me,” he said, adding that the genre — though intriguing in print — was lacking in realism on the small screen.
“I started thinking about crimes on television; they make something that can’t actually be done look real,” Anthony said, adding he wanted to lend a dose of credibility to the genre.
“I wanted to start writing true-to-the-fact mysteries; actual, researched events. Things that can actually happen,” he said.
Anthony said he researches everything he puts in his books.
Growing up in the Bronx, being a truck driver for 40 years and reading as much as possible have helped Anthony write what he calls “an honest story.”
Though some investigations and stories in his books take place in other parts of the country, his books are primarily set in Baldwin County.
In his books, Anthony does not use adult language or themes that might be considered distasteful, he said.
“I enjoy writing and people enjoy the fact that it’s clean,” Anthony said.
“I don’t want a child to pick it up and accidentally say what is in the book,” he added.
“I’ve always said that there is no need for that.”
Anthony has published nine books since 2000.
The Daphne Public Library currently has five of his titles in its system.
Jubilee Mornings, a series that features local authors, is held at the Daphne Public Library at 10 a.m. on the first Wednesday of the month.
