“Adopt a student” during Family Literacy Month

SBLC offers tutoring program for local students

FOLEY - November is Family Literacy Month, and The South Baldwin Literacy Council (SBLC) is asking for community members to consider “adopting a student.” The fundraiser program allows students to receive one-on-one tutoring, books and materials at no cost to them or their families.

“The adopt a student program is a vital part of the South Baldwin Literacy Council’s success,” said Director Mitchell Lee. “As we provide all of our services free of charge, we depend on community support to continue our tutoring programs. By adopting a student, you are playing a key role in a community member’s education.”

Tutoring is available in math and/or reading. The SBLC also offers tutoring classes for adults, English as a Second Language (ESL) tutoring, and GED tutoring. It costs $312 to adopt a student for an entire year, $130 to cover either the entire fall or spring semester, or $52 for the summer reading program. Students also receive encouragement, confidence building, and children’s books to read with their families, said Lee.

“If you can support local children and adults studying for a better tomorrow, please consider signing up to adopt a student today,” Lee said. “The South Baldwin Literacy Council appreciates contributions of any size as 100 percent of donations stay right here in Baldwin County and are used to provide free tutoring programs for the community.”
