DAPHNE — It may still be summer temperatures outside, but a nonprofit that helps feed Baldwin County is preparing for a fall full of giving thanks.

The 14th-annual Prodisee Pantry Turkey Trot is set to take over Old Towne Daphne on Oct. 28. This community event is geared toward family-friendly activities, races and supporting Baldwin County's largest nonprofit emergency food pantry. The event will start with a certified 5K race at 8 a.m. on Main Street at City Hall. Participants will travel through the streets of Old Towne Daphne on a course that highlights the area's appeal.

The one-mile fun-run and walk will begin at 9 a.m. and is open to walkers of all ages.

Beyond the races, the festival this year will include games, live music and treats catering to both children and adults.

Teams are encouraged to take part with awards available for various categories such as largest team, highest funds raised, team spirit, most cans collected and the cutest booth.

The essence of the Turkey Trot centers around supporting Prodisee Pantry, a lifeline for food-insecure families in Baldwin County. Proceeds from the event contribute to providing these families with the necessities for a traditional Thanksgiving meal, embodying the spirit of giving during the holiday season.

The Turkey Trot serves as a cornerstone of Prodisee Pantry's mission, supporting their Thanksgiving project. Deann Servos, executive director of Prodisee Pantry, noted that last year they supplied nine tons of turkey and over 18 tons of holiday provisions to 1,300 families. Every participant's registration signifies a turkey donated to a family in need.

For those preferring in-person registration, forms are also available at Prodisee Pantry, located at 9315 Spanish Fort Blvd. Those wishing to sign up early can secure their spots by submitting applications and fees of $25 for the 5K Race and $10 for the fun run before noon on Oct. 27. On the event day, race day fees will amount to $30 for the 5K and $15 for the fun run.
