Staff report
LOXLEY, Alabama — Loxley police are investigating a “smash-and-grab” operation in the early morning hours on Monday at the local Chevron Station on the corner of North Hickory Street (Alabama 59) and County Road 64.
LPD Assistant Chief Raymond “Tony” Lovell said an estimated $500 in damage was done when the front door of the business, which was closed over the weekend for renovations, was smashed in and the thieves made off with cartons of cigarettes and assorted cigars.
“We don’t know at this time the value of the merchandise that was taken,” Lovell said, “but it appears that nothing else was taken.”
The business was scheduled for re-opening next week. It is unknown at this time when it will re-open. LPD is conducting an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Lovell or investigator, Lt. Doug Phillips at the Loxley PD.
