During last week’s Daphne City Council meeting, Mayor Dane Haygood announced Public Works Director Richard Johnson had submitted his resignation to the city.
Johnson will continue to work for the city of Daphne until the end of September, when he is set to begin work for the city of Fairhope.
Haygood was quick to praise Johnson for his years of service to the city.
“Richard’s commitment to Daphne has been very strong,” Haygood said. “What he’s done over these past eight years has been unparalleled. Richard is a resident of the city of Daphne, and this is where his heart lies no matter where his work duties may be.”
Johnson was hired by Daphne in 2010, following the retirement of longtime Planning and Public Works Director Bill Eady.
Johnson previously worked as a planning engineer with the Baldwin County Highway Department before going to work for the city of Daphne.
