Robert D. Zitzke, 93, a native of Joliet, Ill., and a longtime resident of Lockport, Ill., died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2008 at his residence in Fairhope.
He was the 19334 and 1937 champion of the Joliet Herald News Will County Golf Tournament.
He retired in 1975 as the superintendent of American Can Company in Chicago with 43 years of service.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He was a former member of the St. Dennis Catholic Church and a member of St. Margaret’s Queen of Scotland Catholic Church in Foley. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge #1557 and the Elks Lodge #296.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Mary Ruth Himer Zitzke; and a daughter, Dawn Marie Gerrity.
Survivors include a son, Robert (Janet) Zitzke Jr. of Plainfield, Ill.; two daughters, Mary Lynn (Edward) Scheuber of Hot Springs Village, Ark., and Deborah (Steven) Sisley of Fairhope; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23 at St. Margaret’s Queen of Scotland Catholic Church in Foley.
The family requests memorial donations be made to the St. Margaret’s Queen of Scotland Catholic Church Building Fund.
