Imagine a bee buzzing around town and what it may see and hear.  All of the non-chain restaurants in Orange Beach are encouraged to sign up for Alabama Restaurant Week 2013 at www.alabamarestaurantweek.com.  The deadline is July 15th.  Locals should not be standing in line with all of the new restaurants in the town.

J.W. Finz is open above Wolf Bay Lodge at Zekes Marina and you must try their Parmesan encrusted portabella fries with your Grouper Rueben and New Orleans bread pudding.  Finz owners’ Cathy and Jim Green invite you to visit them for lunch and dinner.  Gulf Gate on Canal Road next to Sam’s packed the house at last weeks’ “Local’s Night” with great food and music.  Go by and see Jim Hutto and enjoy a Cajun pistol.  That is right, you do not have to wait until Shrimp Festival anymore!

Your friend and mine, Lester Bryant, is back at Lester’s at the corner of Canal Road and Gulf Bay Road.  The rumor of The Harsany’s of Cosmo's opening a new restaurant next door may have been premature. Or was it?  Keep your eyes on the new parking lot.

Orange Beach Marina is touting Fisher’s . . . a fine dining experience by local restaurant entrepreneur, Johnny Fisher.  Emeril visited this restaurant on the eve of its opening and enjoyed great cuisine including crawfish beignets.

Did you recognize the beauty on the cover of the May issue of Pensacola Bella Magazine?  She is Baldwin County native, Jodie Giles.  Congratulations to Michelle Russ of Orange Beach who was elected as President of the Coastal Baldwin Educational Enrichment Foundation.  A special thanks to Ms. Iris Etheridge who participated in organizing this group to support the public schools on the island.  Gulf Shores High School graduating class of 2013 valedictorian, Zack Warren, and salutatorian, Olivia Melton; both started their education at Orange Beach Elementary.  We are so proud of all of our graduates!

What are you planning for Coastal Christmas 2013?  Make your plans now because the calendar is filling up fast with events such as Classical Christmas Concert with international baritone, Howard Reddy and mezzo soprano, Hanan Tarbay on December 5th presented by the Marjorie Younce Snook Public Library in Summerdale.  The City of Orange Beach has purchased new decorations!

The new Bouldering Park on the Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail opened June 7th  as the 'caution tape' was cut.  This boulder-climbing experience is located at The Pavilion.  Learn more at www.backcountrytrail.com .

Opening reception for the exhibit  “Visions: through Painting and Poetry” by Margaret Biggs will be June 21st from 5-7pm at the Coastal Art Center of Orange Beach.  Also at the CAC enjoy “Hot Glass Blowout” on June 28th with glass blowing demonstrations by Artist in Residence, Adam Burges.
