TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Sporting News released its 2013 preseason All-America team last week, which featured five Alabama players to the 27-player first team, including Daphne's T.J. Yeldon.
Senior linebacker C.J. Mosley was joined by junior safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix on the first-team defense while senior guard Anthony Steen was a first-team pick on offense along with sophomores T.J. Yeldon (running back) and Amari Cooper (receiver).
Mosely led the Alabama team a year ago with 107 tackles while Clinton-Dix had a team- and SEC-high five interceptions. Steen helped clear the way for 445.5 yards per game of total offense while Cooper set freshman records for yards (1,000), touchdowns (11) and receptions (59). Yeldon rushed for a 'Bama rookie-record 1,108 yards and 12 rushing scores.
At Daphne High, Yeldon led his Trojans to the 2010 6A state championship and was named "Mr. Football" in the state by the Alabama Sportswriters Association.
There were 12 SEC players on the 27-player first team, including Johnny Manziel (QB, Texas A&M), Todd Gurley (RB, Georgia), Jadeveon Clowney (DE, South Carolina), Anthony Johnson (DT, LSU), Loucheiz Purifoy (CB, Florida), Kyle Christy (P, Florida) and Marcus Murphy (PR, Missouri).
