LOXLEY, Ala. — A memorial Mass for a local woman killed in a two-vehicle crash on Alabama Highway 59 just south of Loxley on Friday, will be held today at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Robertsdale.

Mona J. Carter, 39, a native of Jay, Maine, moved to Baldwin County with her husband, Scott, and twin sons, Jacob and Cole, in the 1990s, and was a real estate agent with Prudential Nichols Real Estate in Baldwin and Mobile counties for the past 12 years.

She and her parents, Charles H. Miller Jr., 64, and Emelda F. Miller, 61, who were visiting the area from Maine, were killed when the vehicle, a 2005 Ford Taurus, driven by Miller, collided with a 2007 Freightliner tractor-trailer combination near the intersection of Hinote-Glass Road.

According to report issued by the Alabama Highway Patrol office in Mobile, Miller pulled from private property into the path of the tractor-trailer as it headed southbound on Highway 59.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, Joseph F. Hayden, 58, of Hayden, was slightly injured in the crash, according to the report, and treated at South Baldwin Regional Medical Center in Foley.

The Millers were front-seat occupants and were both wearing seatbelts, according to the report. Carter, a back-seat passenger, was not restrained. Alcohol was not believed to have been a factor and no charges have been filed in connection with the incident. The crash remains under investigation by Alabama State Troopers.

According to published reports, Scott, Jacob and Cole Carter were attending an overnight retreat at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Robertsdale at the time of the accident.

A memorial Mass for Carter has been set for 11 a.m. Thursday morning at the church. Arrangements are by Mack Funeral Home and Crematory, Robertsdale.

A fund has been set up for the Carter family and donations can be made at any Compass Bank or Prudential Nichols Real Estate.

Mass of Christian Burial for Charles and Emelda Miller has been set for 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2 at St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay, Maine. The family is asking that memorial donations be made to the St. Rose of Lima Church Fund, Church Street, Jay, ME 042349.

Arrangements are by Finley Funeral Home, Livermore Falls, Maine. Condolences may be sent online at www.findleyfuneralhome.com.
