ORANGE BEACH, AL - A woman injured in what emergency crews say was a personal watercraft accident was taken by LifeFlight May 29 to a Pensacola hospital.

Crews were called to Flippers Restaurant about 8:30 p.m. on May 29 and started treatment on the victim who was described by Battalion Chief Dray Resmondo as having "traumatic injuries."

LifeFlight was landed in a field on Wilson Boulevard across the street from Orange Beach Elementary School, officials said.

According to officials at Bear Point Marina, the woman, Michelle Poynter from Birmingham, hit a big wake which caused her face to hit the steering mechanism. Officials said she suffered broken bones to her face but was otherwise not seriously injured.

She was still in Baptist Hospital in Pensacola on the morning of May 30.
