Wisdom to run for Place 3 on Gulf Shores Council

GULF SHORES, Alabama — “Connecting Gulf Shores’ ‘small town’ to its ‘big beach’ for the benefit of all — now and for the future — is my vision and my reason for running for the Gulf Shores City Council,” says W.W. “Chip” Wisdom.

Wisdom is running for Gulf Shores City Council Place 3. He will face incumbent Phillip Harris Tuesday in the municipal election.

“Ten years ago, my wife and I built a house here after exploring the entire Gulf Coast region,” he said. “We knew it was the place where we wanted our family to land.

“I’ve been lucky enough to have two very different careers in my life, both of which have prepared me to take on the challenges of a Council member. I spent 20 years as a Division One football coach starting with nine years at the University of Georgia (where I had played and was named an All-SEC linebacker), which subsequently culminated in a National Championship in 1980. After several other coaching stints, I ended up in Tuscaloosa at the University of Alabama.”

Wisdom was then offered an opportunity with Randall-Reilly Publishing in Tuscaloosa where he became a vice president of its Industrial Media Group and spent his next 20 years raising his family. After becoming a full-time resident of Gulf Shores three years ago, Wisdom has been a regular substitute teacher for the Baldwin County School System.

“I’ll be a fresh voice for the Council and an independent voter,” continues Wisdom. “I can devote 100 percent of my time to the position. I have strengths in marketing, personnel, education, recreation and fiscal matters. I’m ready to serve.”
