Elsie Barnes Wilder, born Jan. 30, 1913 in Atlanta, died Saturday, June 5, 2010.

She had a career of over 30 years in civil service, having worked for the Veterans Administration, the IRS and Department of Defense.

She came to Montrose in 1978, moved to Fairhope in 1980 and lived at Westminster Village in Spanish Fort from 1994 until her death. She was affiliated with Fairhope Unitarian Fellowship and National Active and Retired Federal Employees, having served as president of each group during the 1980s.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rufus Newton Barnes and Margaret Ellison Barnes; sister, Lou Dunlavy; former spouse, Edward Anderson Wilder; and son-in-law, William A. Jeffery II.

Survivors include a daughter Peggy Jeffery of Spanish Fort; grandsons William A. (Phyllis) Jeffery III of Mobile, James A. (Kathryn Murdoch) Jeffery of Huntsville; and great-grandson, James F. Jeffery of Mobile.

Visitation begins at 11 a.m. with a Celebration of Life Service at noon Saturday, July 3 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Daphne with the Rev. Thack Dyson officiating.

The family requests memorial donations be made to St. Paul’s Building Fund or to the Westminster Foundation.
