Who’s heating up: Gulf Shores’ Kayleigh Jacks and Spanish Fort girls soccer

Posted

The spring sports season is in full swing from the bay shores to the white sand beaches, and Gulf Coast Media is bringing another week of spotlights with this week's Baldwin County Buzz.

Jumping into the limelight this week is Gulf Shores softball's Kayleigh Jacks swinging a red-hot bat at the plate and a dominant Spanish Fort girls soccer program pacing Class 6A as well.

KAYLEIGH JACKS, GULF SHORES SOFTBALL

Jacks went 16-for-21 at the plate last week with 2 home runs, 13 RBIs, 4 doubles and 3 triples, including four games in the first Gulf Coast Classic of the season. She posted a perfect 4-for-4 and accomplished the rare feat of hitting for the cycle in a 17-3 win over Summertown, helping Gulf Shores softball end the week on a 6-2 run (4-2 in the Classic).

Monday, Jacks went 2-for-3 with another home run and two RBIs in just one of two Gulf Coast Classic II games the Dolphins played this week due to early-week weather. All four of her home runs this season have come in the past week and a half to two weeks, providing dangerous power at the bottom of Gulf Shores' lineup.

After a busy few weeks of tournament play, Jacks and the Dolphins will get some additional practice and rest days, with only three games scheduled over the next two weeks — all against area opponents.

SPANISH FORT GIRLS SOCCER

Spanish Fort girls soccer has been on a tear, posting a 12-2-2 record while winning eight of their last nine matches. The Lady Toros outscored opponents 17-1 last week and earn a bump in the AHSAA Class 6A coaches polls up to No. 5.

Also ranked 17th in the state and 93rd nationally by MaxPreps, Spanish Fort went 2-1 in the Island Cup last week, with its only loss coming to another MaxPreps top-25 opponent in Athens. Before that, the Lady Toros had not lost since Feb. 10 and have lost by a total of just two goals in their pair of losses this season.

With less than a month left in the regular season, Spanish Fort's girls will look to finish strong and capture its first Blue Map trophy since 2011 (Class 5A). The Lady Toros fell short of the Class 6A title game in 2025, losing to eventual champion Briarwood Christian in the semi-finals.
