Whitney Antoine Hernandez, 85, a native of Plaquemine, La. and a resident of Lillian for 43 years, passed away Monday, Sept. 16, 2013.

He served 21 years in the United States Air Force as an aircraft electrician.

After retiring he then took a position at Naval Air Station Pensacola at the Naval Rework Facility, working there for more than 15 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jeff and Faustine Daigle Hernandez; two brothers, Nelcon and Roy Hernandez; and three sisters, Bella Kelly, Esma Kimble and Bessie Lambert.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Rita Kling Hernandez; five daughters, Paulette (Randy) Salsbury of Lake Charles, La., Patricia (Leonard) Frey of Robertsdale, Ramona Hernandez of Lillian, Anita Clary (Friend Marty) of Baton Rouge, La. and Trudy Alms of Elsanor; two sons, Michael Hernandez of Denham Springs, La. and W. Jeff Hernandez of Mobile; two sisters, Mabel Poche’ of Prairieville, La. and Sophie Ducote; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held from St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lillian on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, at 11 a.m. Family will receive friends one hour prior to mass.

Interment will be at Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola, at 2 p.m.
