DAPHNE, Ala.—Physical education classes have been walking, jogging and running across the United States two to three times per week for at least seven minutes each time since the middle of August. (We wouldn’t be surprised to hear if many of our students receive new tennis shoes for Christmas.)

The addition of a sixth grade this school year has also brought about the addition of a new extracurricular activity: band. Band students work very hard at school with their band teacher, Mrs. Betty Godwin, to learn how to play, and at home practicing their instrument. It is clear in their performance that they put in a lot of effort.
On Dec. 9, the sixth-grade bands from our school and Daphne Middle School band had their first concert at Trojan Hall next to Daphne High School. The band sounded fantastic!
This past Tuesday, our band performed at the Eastern Shore Centre, then went out to eat. This concert was a reward for all the hard work that the students had put in during the first semester.
That same evening at the P.T.O. meeting, the group performed again.
It is amazing how well the students can play after only about five months of band class!
In Ms. Mandy Ames’ fourth-grade class, students are learning about dividing in math. They are dividing by two- and three-digit numbers. It is fun to learn about dividing but it can also be challenging. Once you know how to divide, it’s pretty easy. When you grow up and get in older grades, you will need to know how to divide!
