What’s happening at W.J. Carroll Intermediate

Our honors breakfast and assembly was this past Tuesday. A special thank-you goes to Dr. Foster and The Center for Family Health and Wellness in Daphne along with our PTO as their kind donations gave us a great breakfast and a wonderful morning to celebrate our achievements. We were really happy to see all of the parents who came to the honors assembly.

Our science fair is coming up on Feb. 11. Fourth-grade students are required to participate. Fifth grade may work in teams. Please check with your classroom teacher about specific details. The science fair is all about comparing, creativity and commitment. Need some ideas or some help? Go to our school’s technology blog at http://apps.bcbe.org/blogWJCtech/ then click on science. When you scroll down, you will see some great science fair links. This blog was created to collect technology integration ideas for teachers’ classrooms in one easy location. We hope it could be of help to you too.

There will be a PTO meeting on Feb. 11 at 6:30 p.m. in conjunction with the science fair. We look forward to seeing you all there.

Don’t forget that there is no school on Jan. 21 so that we can celebrate Martin Luther King Day.

Mardi Gras holidays are not far away — they’re Feb. 4 and 5.

Mrs. Alexander, our librarian, is looking for more volunteers. Over Christmas break the library got a new check-out system for the books. They need help labeling the new books and putting them on the shelf. Later in the year, they will need assistance in bringing all the books to the new building. The library also would enjoy book donations. So if you or someone you know would be willing to volunteer or donate a book, it would be much appreciated.

On March 28, Mrs. Jennifer Curenton’s, Mrs. Benita Battle’s, Mrs. Angela Stewart’s and Mrs. Debbie Smith’s fifth-grade classes will be going on a field trip to New Orleans. They will go to an aquarium, the zoo and will see an IMAX video.

The purpose of this trip is to learn about new animals within the ecosystem. This trip will cost approximately $40. The final $20 will be due on Wednesday, Feb. 13. The field trip money is non-refundable.

Fourth grade will be participating in a vision screening on Jan. 22.
