DAPHNE, Ala.—Recently, our teachers voted for our teacher of the year. Mrs. Kelly Agee, a fourth-grade teacher, won the honor. Her prize will be to get the special parking spot right outside of our school’s front door. She will also be working hard to fill out an application for Baldwin County’s Teacher of the Year.
Mrs. Agee enjoys being a teacher. She has taught for 18 years. In her spare time she likes to be with her daughters Kara and Kylee but enjoys reading whenever she can.
In reading Mrs. Agee’s fourth-grade students are learning about main idea and details. Main idea is where you find what the main idea of the passage is, and then find the details that support the main idea.
In Mrs. Elaine Herring’s fifth-grade social studies class, students are learning about the ongoing presidential race. The two candidates running for president are John McCain and Barack Obama. John McCain is a Republican. Barack Obama is a Democratic. McCain’s vice presidential running mate is Sarah Palin. Barack Obama’s vice presidential running mate is Joe Biden. You must be 18 to vote for president and must be at least 35 years old to run for president.
We are moving to the next phase in mounting our LCD projectors to the ceiling. We have nine mounted and are preparing to order mounts for every additional classroom. We are looking for volunteer parents, friends, and family members to install these kits for us. We hope to begin in the next few weeks. Please call Blair Heald through the school office for more information. If you are ready for action, leave your name and number with the school office and Mrs. Heald will be in touch.
This week has been Red Ribbon week. Teachers picked one lucky student to be their class’ Red Ribbon week representative. The representatives had to write a one-page essay on reasons why it good to stay drug free. The winner will get to attend a dinner at the Daphne Civic Center. The week has been full of fun events. Each day, there is a different theme. Monday’s theme was “Don’t Flip Out On Drugs.” Students wore flip-flop sandals that day. Tuesday, students teamed up against drugs by wearing their favorite team jersey or shirt. Wednesday, students shaded out and socked it to drugs. They wore hats, sunglasses, and crazy socks to support the theme. Thursday, students hid from drugs by wearing camouflage clothing. Friday, red shirts were worn with uniform pants or shorts. Say no to drugs!
