FAIRHOPE, Ala. - Fairhope singer-songwriter Kathryn Scheldt will team with legendary Gulf Coast instrumentalists Tom Morley and Rick Hirsch, a founding member of the Southern rock group Wet Willie, for a performance in Fairhope, Thursday, July 14 at 7 p.m.
The free event at Patina Art Gallery, 19 N. Church St., will feature songs from Scheldt’s latest CD, “Southern Wind,” released last fall by Lamon Records of Nashville. The album, like Scheldt’s earlier “Southern Girl,” has received wide airplay and critical acclaim from the United Kingdom to Australia, as well as in this country, according to a concert news release.
Morley, a Fairhope resident and co-founder of the Celtic group Mithril, will also perform selections from his recently released solo CD, “The Raven’s Wing,” as well as backing Scheldt on her songs. Hirsch, a Mobile native and founding member of the iconic Southern rock group, Wet Willie, will also perform his own solo numbers, in addition to playing guitar for Scheldt.
The concert, which is open to the public, is part of a weeklong Teacher Institute, a study of the Alabama coast, sponsored by the Alabama Humanities Foundation. Participants include secondary teachers from all over the state.
University of South Alabama writer in residence Frye Gaillard, is hosting the Institute and will also serve as emcee for the concert. For more information, email patinaartgallery@yahoo.com or call 251-928-0272.
