SPANISH FORT, Ala. — Let the Christmas spirit flow over you when you wander down the main hallways at Westminster Village. The hallways are lined with 51 decorated tabletop themed Christmas trees.
“This is exciting for all the residents to see all the nice trees lined up in the hallway,” resident Tommy Talbert said.
Area merchants and vendors purchase the trees and use different themes to decorate them.
“We enjoy putting on the Festival of Trees every year because it is a community affair. The general public enjoys coming to view the festival of the trees and also mingle with our residents,” Marketing Director Kay Brown Korb said.
Trees have been decorated by area merchants and vendors to help raise money to help fund the Spanish Fort Community Center.
An open house was held on Dec. 2 to a packed house, and bids are still being accepted for the auctioned trees and other items. The silent auction ends on Dec. 17. Bidding will stop at noon.
In addition to the decorated tabletop trees, people can bid on handmade knitted or crocheted baby afghans, full-size afghans, as well as quilts made by the Curl and Purll Gang. There is also an original “Louise Estes rose” water color painting by renowned artist Louise Estes. There is also a display of a tea set china painted by one of the residents up for bid.
Awards were handed out on for different categories, including “Most Fun” and “Most Beautiful”. Tree themes range from the “Red Hat Society” to “The Gingerbread House.” Trees are decorated with cookie cutters to fish made out of shells. “Bird’s Nest” by Zimlich the Florist won “1st Place Most Beautiful” award.
“It’s the most exciting time of the year,” Korb said.
