Jerry John Weeks, 68, a native of Fairhope and a resident of Great Falls, Mont., a retired Air Force administrative technician, died Saturday, April 10, 2010, at a local hospital of natural causes.
He was born Oct. 20, 1941, in Fairhope to Sidney and Rose Collins Weeks. He graduated from high school in Magnolia Springs in 1961, and joined the Air Force that year. He served 20 years starting in Greenland and retiring from Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls on May 31, 1981. He received a Purple Heart while serving in Vietnam.
After his retirement from the Air Force, he formed L & J Communications and enjoyed a second career in radio sales.
He married Lynne Kosmerl in June 1978, and together they enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening and spending time with family and friends. In their retirement years, they traveled all over the United States and to several foreign countries. He attended the First Congregational UCC and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Andrew Weeks; and both sets of grandparents.
Survivors include his wife, Lynne Weeks of Great Falls; stepdaughter, Christine Kosmerl of Mesa, Ariz.; stepson, David Kosmerl of Gilbert, Ariz.; sister, Bonnie (Mike) Jenkins of Harper’s Ferry, W.Va.; four stepgrandchildren, Calvin, Jonah, Micah and Taryn Kosmerl, all of Gilbert; sister-in-law, Ginger Weeks of Boxboro, Mass.; niece, Jessica (Alvin) Gonzalez of West Roxburg, Mass.; a favorite uncle and aunt, Huey and Jeannie Collins of Magnolia Springs; and numerous cousins.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 15 at Schnider Funeral Home. Services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, April 16 at First Congregational United Church of Christ. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium.
