STYX RIVER — Around 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning, approximately 20 weapons, (primarily rifles and handguns) and some shooting optics were reported stolen from the Styx River Shooting Center.

The Sheriff’s Office arrived after responding to an alarm notification from the business on Water World Road to find that the front door of the building had been breached. After clearing the building and notifying the property owners, investigators began processing the scene; noticing that several displays were broken and appeared to have merchandise missing.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms has been brought in to assist in the investigation, due mainly to the vast number of weapons that were stolen. The value of the merchandise has been estimated from $10,000 to $15,000, not even including the damage done to the premises.

Evidence has been collected and turned over to the county’s Criminal Investigative Unit and there are already a number of leads in the investigation.
