Waterville in Gulf Shores opens new features

GULF SHORES — Waterville USA celebrated the grand opening of several new additions to the amusement park May 24.

Among the new features are a Top Golf simulator, the Lagoon Bar and Splash N’ Strike bowling area.

The Top Golf simulator is a state-of-the-art facility that gives visitors a golfing experience without going outside. It allows players to swing clubs and hit balls at virtual targets as well as give feedback on the swing performance. Players can also participate in games such as dodgeball, football and even baseball on this simulator. There are currently two Top Golf bays that fit eight people per suite.

Along with the simulators, there are two Splash N’ Strike bowling lanes. These lanes feature small hand-held bowling balls designed to be easy to hold and throw for visitors of all ages. The handicap-friendly lane is an innovative addition to the Splash N’ Strike bowling area, offering visitors with disabilities or mobility issues the opportunity to participate.

After obtaining a liquor license, Waterville also added a new Lagoon Bar outside of the arcade area.

The general manager of Waterville, John Turberville, said they not only needed something new to the property, but also something for visitors to do inside.
“It has been a lot of excitement for us," Turberville said. "We’ve had a lot of golfers excited about the Top Golf because on rainy and cold days, they would love to come in there and play.”

Gulf Shores Councilmember Steve Jones attended the opening ceremony and said he was excited about these new additions.

“I have been here for over 30 years and have watched Waterville evolve," he said. "To stay in business, you got to change what you do because the market changes, people change, this town changes."
