Marquetta Antionette Washington. born April 22, 1989, died March 5, 2009.

She was born in Foley, the daughter of Alice Washington Evans and Corey Williams.

She was not only a beautiful young woman, she was also an athlete, playing varsity basketball and varsity volleyball while attending Woodham High School in Pensacola, Fla., where she graduated in 2007.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Mary Williams, and her great-grandparents, Willie and Ethel Pettway.

Survivors include her parents, Alice and Tyrone Evans, and Corey Williams; the love of her life, Anthony Hudson; three sisters, Alika Evans, Chiquita Evans and Ty’Queria Evans, all of Pensacola, Fla.; two brothers, Tavaris Washington and Tyrone Evans Jr., both of Pensacola; adopted sister, Michelle Gates of Pensacola; grandparents, Adelle Washington of Atmore, Roy Williams of Loxley, Zella and Herman Smith of Pensacola; aunts, Arlycia Washington of Mobile, Theresa (Jason) Fernandez of Atlanta, Hazel (Kenneth) Vright of Atmore, Jackie (Darryl) Bush of Daphne, Eunice Melvina (Jimmy) Antione of Houston; uncles, Michael (Nikki) Washington of Shreveport, La., William (Qiana) Washington of Atmore, Gary Barnes of Atmore, Jerome (Sarah) Williams of Spanish Fort, Kenny Williams and Calvin Williams, both of Loxley, and melvin Evans Jr. of Pensacola, Fla.; special cousins, Dalvin Washington, Shanta Washington, Ultranet Stone, Samone Williams, Meckaelia Corks, Chaundrea Martin, Shaniqua Durant, Devarian Durant, Willie Durant, Billy Pettway and Miller McCaster; special family friends, George Barge, Raymond Palmer, Anthony and Erica White, Luman and Tammy May, Spencer and Gwen Abrams, Paulene Grimsley, Robert and Katrellel Malden; lifetime friends, A.J. Purifoy, Gloria White, Alex Palmer, Marquis Adams, Jenise Brown, Desire Robinson and many more.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 14 at Pleasant Hill F.G.B.C., Atmore with Pastor F.D. Banks officiating. Interment followed at Fairview Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Anthony White, Michael Robinson, Michael Jefferson, Raymond Palmer, Kenneth McKenzie and George Barge.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation for the many acts of love, concern and kindness shown to them during this time of bareavement. Special thanks to the Atmore Police Department, Escambia County (Alabama) Sheriff’s Department, Escambia County (Florida) Sheriff’s Department, Poarch Creek Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Pleasant Hill Full Gospel Baptist Church and the Christian Memorial Funeral Home.

The family requests memorial donations be made to the Marquetta Washington Memorial Fund at any branch of United Bank to help with funeral expenses.
