Walter Donald (Don) Moore, 71, died Aug. 4, 2011.

He was the fifth child of seven born to Charles and Grace Moore, grew up near Fish River. Moore was a 1957 graduate of Foley High School and was inducted into the Foley High School Football Hall of Fame in 2005.

He and his high school sweetheart, Judy (Ashwander) Moore, with their beloved daughter, Sharon, moved from Foley to Tuscaloosa in 1960 where Don graduated from the University of Alabama in 1964 with a degree in business.  Career moves resulted in their living in Texas for 39 years, with the last 26 of his career with AXA/Equitable Life as an agent and manager in Dallas.

In May, 2000 Don and Judy moved from Texas into their home at Craft Farms in Gulf Shores. They often agreed that the years “back home” in Alabama were the best years of their 54-plus-year marriage, thanks to the many wonderful friendships they developed at Craft Farms, renewal of their Foley High friendships and being close to family again. Don loved the Craft Farms golfing camaraderie, the social activities and in particular, all the good bear hugs from the ladies.

He was an avid “Crimson Tide” fan and especially enjoyed being back in Alabama with other football fans.

Moore was a kind, generous, thoughtful person who put everyone at ease. He loved people, had a strong sense of integrity and work ethic, and was a person whom you could always rely upon, without having to ask. His wife and daughter adored him and feel incredibly blessed to have had him in their lives.

Moore will be terribly missed by his wife and daughter, brothers Norman (Margie) Moore, Kenneth Moore, brother-in-law Dan Ashwander, sister-in-law Eva Lynn (Mike) Odom, nieces and nephews and of course, his much loved dog-child, Kalli.

The family wishes to extend their deep gratitude to friends, neighbors and family for their much appreciated support and prayers. The outpouring of love and concern from all was tremendously comforting to Don and his family.

A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011 at Pine Rest Funeral Home, 16541 U.S. Highway 98, in Foley. A private family hour will begin at 1 p.m.

The family suggests memorial contributions to South Baldwin Educational Foundation, P.O. Box 1600, Foley, AL 36536; Gulf Shores Presbyterian Church of Gulf Shores, P.O. Box 256, Gulf Shores, AL  36547; or the charity of your choice.
